If you thought people dressing up their pets and posing them for ridiculously cute photos was a modern phenomenon, we’re here to set you straight. It goes way, way back. Long before William Wegman enchanted the art world with photos (and videos) of his Weimaraner friends. These awesome photographs of bulldogs in costume, taken around 1905 by an unknown photographer, are part of the vast collection belonging to the Library of Congress

Keep in mind that during the early 1900s creating photographic portraits required the subjects to sit perfectly still for minutes at a time. These must’ve been particularly patient or sedate dogs. They certainly knew how to rock a sweet hat.
