This spooky adult beverage is called a Screwed-Up Screwdriver. It’s a cocktail created just for All Hallows’ Eve and it’s made using Blavod, which is black vodka, and orange juice. But you can easily get away with using black food colouring and regular vodka instead. Ghosts, goblins, and ghouls do not object to creative substitutions. Frankly, they can’t do much drinking anyway. Here’s the complete cocktail recipe:

Screwed-Up Screwdriver:
Serves 11/4 cup ice1/2 cup freshly squeezed tangerine juice1 1/2 ounces black vodka1 black licorice twist, for serving
Place ice in a tall glass. Pour juice into glass. Pour vodka over the back of a cocktail spoon into glass so it sits on top of juice and creates a layer of black. Slice 1/4 inch off each end of licorice, and use as a straw. Serve immediately.

Jill Harness from Neatorama made the excellent suggestion of substituting blood orange juice for an even spookier beverage. We like the way she thinks.
Visit marathastewart.com for the recipes for a couple more grown-up Halloween drinks, also involving black vodka.
