Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman (previously featured here) has created another awesome large-scale animal sculpture. We’ve seen giant rubber ducks, gargantuan slugs, and even a great big monkey made of flip-flop sandals. This time Hofman has delighted the world by creating an enormous and wonderfully relaxed bunny rabbit.
Entitled Sunbathing Hare, the lazy lagomorph lounges near the Peter and Paul Fortress in St. Petersburg, Russia where charmed passersby appear to be free to interact with him.
Covered in thick strips of painted plywood, the big smiling bunny measures nearly 50 feet long from his ears to his toes, 26 feet wide from paw to paw, and just over 8 feet high. He was created by Florentijn Hofman for a public arts program called The Russia-Netherlands Bilateral Year 2013.
